As time goes on the world at large continues to change. Whether that’d be technology, laws, social constructs or new discoveries, everything is constantly evolving. As individuals we can make the choice to either stay stagnant or to adapt, to die with the old or survive with the new. This piece is a reminder for myself to continue to face my challenges and learn despite the discomfort of growth and the anxiety of an unknown future.

For as long as I remember I’ve always dreamed of finding a lifelong partner. To be understood, to be connected, it’s something I deeply long for yet haven’t found success in. This piece is the accumulation of all the rejections, disappointments and lack of connections that I experienced over the course of my life. Despite the advancements of social media and how easily connected one can have with someone across worlds and time zones, it has also caused us to be more isolated and alone in a sense. This has been true with things such as dating apps where finding genuine connection and intentionality seems much more difficult compared to in the past. My hope is that the growth of these technologies won’t deter us from having genuine relationships.

Dreams do come true for some, but there’s a harsh and grieving reality that not everyone’s will come to fruition. It could be due to an early death, lack of opportunity or even just failure. Many days I worry about what will become of my dreams considering that I feel so far away from them. And the constant barrage of other people’s successes is an everlasting reminder that I’m not where I want to be. My heart aches for those who didn’t or won’t see their dreams fulfilled in this lifetime.
